"The University of Nebraska at Omaha Nebraska Center for Justice Research (CJR): The University of Nebraska at Omaha Nebraska Center for Justice Research (CJR) agrees to perform the following tasks along with all other obligations agreed to in a post-award subgrantee agreement with the City of Omaha during the FY2015 PSN Grant period: Use FY2015 PSN Grant funds to conduct an analysis of the local crime problems and actively assist law enforcement to develop a continuous proactive plan for gun crime reduction. CJR will provide a Graduate Research Assistant to the Omaha Police Departments Crime Analysis Unit to work directly with the Gang Unit. The Graduate Research Assistant, under the direction of Dr. Ryan Spohn, Nebraska Center for Justice Research Director, will provide real time analysis of the crime statistics for the Gang Unit to use and tailor operations that are intelligence-led and data-driven. Provide post-operation evaluation to determine if law enforcement operations reduced crime in the target areas. Comply with guidelines, requirements and special conditions of the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance applicable to the Project. The CCJR designates Director Ryan Spohn as the Project Point of Contact, accountable for implementing the University of Nebraska Omaha Nebraska Center for Justice Research responsibilities."

Description : Students in the class will work to develop prototypes of innovative technologies that seek to answer the question: "What would make the Omaha metro area a better place to live?" The focus of the project will be to develop technologies that enable equitable access to housing and transportation, as identified by the community partners. Students will go through the whole UCD process including contextual inquiry with experts in urban planning and development to community and neighborhood leaders to determine user needs. At the end of the semester, they will develop and test prototypes for technologies that help address identified goals.

Each installment will feature a student-writer from YES and two published writers. The series is the brainchild of MFA graduate student Emily Borgmann, who will moderate each event. She has been running writing workshops at YES leading up to this series.

Description : Join educators, librarians, coders, designers, scientists, artists, technologists, and others at Mozilla’s Global Sprint, June 1-2, 2017! Global Sprint is designed to be a fast-paced, two-day event to hack and build projects for a healthy Internet. Held at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, Global Sprint in Omaha will focus on the creation of a new project, Omaha Parks. The city has no user-friendly portal for aiding the discovery of parks, or for searching or filtering parks based on their amenities. Omaha Parks will seek to bridge that gap by building an interactive map to aid citizens in discovering parks that fit their needs and wants. Omaha Parks is an open source project and values open collaboration. Anyone wishing to take part in Global Sprint is free to come by anytime and stay for as short or as long as they’d like.
