Description : On Monday, September 18th, UNO students from Professor Fannin’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble class will connect with families from the Learning Community Center of South Omaha, and Springfield Platteview students from Ms. Ehrke’s class for a service learning collaboration. All partners will meet on campus for lunch first then will split up to their designated areas. Professor Fannin and her students will work with the parents from the Learning Community Center to teach them about musical instruments and provide instruments that they will be able to try out for themselves. Ms. Ehrke’s students will have activities prepared for the younger children from the Learning Community Center. At the end, all children and students will gather to listen into the rehearsal put on by the parents and UNO students.

Description : Barbara Robins presented the opening plenary session for the ASAIL conference. Each presenter discussed an aspect of the Native American unit published in our Heartlands textbook for first-year writing. The presentation included motivation and justification for the unit, planning and implementation, assignments, and classroom experiences.

Description : This five-part podcast series reflects how war impacts all of us by listening to the different perspectives of those that have lived it, understanding how the media shapes our views of war, understanding our own feelings, and learning life skills for managing stress, fear, and anxiety. Description : Omaha Sister Cities works with Lauritzen Gardens and UNO's student organization Friends of Japan in an annual fall event. Friends of Japan UNO students volunteer for two days to support the event and provide cultural experience for the community. The Fall 2021 collaboration displayed lanterns in the fall chrysanthemum display at Lauritzen Gardens. They are part of a collection of 24 stone lanterns that were formerly displayed in several gardens in the sister city, Shizuoka, Japan. Some are more than 75 years old and were gifted to the people of Omaha. Lanterns became part of Japanese architectural ornamentation about 1,400 years ago, where they first associated with Buddhist templates and pagodas. Cultural activities were also part of the festival including calligraphy, origami, samurai helmet making, chopstick game, traditional games and toys, tea tasting, Kyudo archery demonstrations, paper arts workshops, Japanese music and drummers, martial arts, and more.
