Description : Students from Professor Steve Rodie’s Landscape Appreciation course and Ms. Rachael Arens’ Omaha Northwest AP Environmental Science students jointly gathered information on the City of Omaha’s potential plastic bag ban ordnance. This P-16 service learning project highlighted environmental sustainability and Omaha’s efforts on plastic bag use. The students collaborated with Nebraska State Senator Wendy DeBoer to draft a bill to propose to the Nebraska Legislature. The bill is still being drafted by Northwest students.

Description : Service Learning projects that partnered with an OPS school presented their semester's research at the UNO OPS Joint Research Symposium. Students from UNO, Burke High School, and Northwest High School presented poster style to an audience covering topics such as plastic bag use, food insecurity, and environmental issues.

Description : Watch Me Grow is a collaboration between the UNO’s intensive language program (ILUNO) students taught by Linda Loftus and Holling Heights Elementary English Language Learners taught by Kim Brown. This project focuses on creating fluency, discussion, and mentorship between students, while learning and serving the community. This year’s topic is community beautification and environmental stewardship. Through partnerships with Keep Omaha Beautiful and FirstStar Fiber, students will learn about and practice this topic in the Omaha community.
