The two student groups worked together all semester to visit Heron Haven, learn about water quality, draw water samples and ultimately test the water quality at Heron Haven. Description : The " Pollinators Garden" Project is an exciting and educational collaboration between students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) alon with P-1 school. In this two-semester endeavor, UNO students enrolled in the BIOL 1330 class will work hand-in-hand with P-12 students to create a Pollinator Garden. The primary goal of this project is to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators in our ecosystem and to actively contribute to their conservation efforts. To achieve this, both UNO and P-12 students will participate in seed collection activities from the Glacier Creek and the Papillion Butterfly Garden. P-16 BIOL 1330.001

Description : Every year, the UNO Service Learning Academy (SLA) brings P-12 and UNO educators together to learn and understand the value of service learning. Participants increase awareness of the Omaha community, their needs, assets, personnel, and practice. Participants demonstrate an understanding of the Pre-K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice (NYLC, 2008). Participants understand the benefits of service learning and its connections to other key frameworks such as AAC&U High Impact Practices, 40 Developmental Assets, 21st Century Skills, and standards-driven curriculum. UNO, P-12, after-school program faculty, and community partners build collaborative relationships and begin service learning project planning. Participants are prepared to create quality service learning experiences.

Description : Forrest Stewardship Project. Understanding the need for manually restoring the native upland dry-mesic oak forest habitat / ecosystem in the condition of anthropogenic suppressed fire occurrences AND the biodiversity threats caused by introduced & invasive plant species. Description : UNO students hired as Collaborative interns are matched with community organizations, working 10 hours a week for that organization in the community. Students are paid through the grant-funded program. Nonprofits coordinate meaningful work for interns to benefit the student experience in different ways. Students typically intern during the fall and spring semesters and may serve the same organization for more than one academic year. Each unique student that works as a Collaborative intern with this specific community partner is identified within this project.
