Description :
This paper conceptualizes and proposes the notion of the prosocial orientation of a firm. It contends that a firm’s prosocial behavior should be driven by several factors including; motives of society, the decision makers, its stakeholders, and its employees. It also suggest that a firm’s prosocial orientation has several positive consequences such as increased cooperation and teamwork, greater benefits and performance, and more secure and higher levels of investment in the firm. However, prosocial orientation can lead to free-riding and managers are advised to be careful about this.
