Description : The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the Honors College seminar on students terms of the service learning construct. Service learning is a pedagogy that connects community service with academic course content and objectives. Service learning pedagogies have been carried out in chemistry at the college level. This is a multiple-case study embedded within a one-semester Honors College General Chemistry II seminar. Findings indicate that the students developed more specific knowledge and appreciation of the community and expressed their intention to continue volunteering to improve academic and scientific skills. Implications of this pedagogy for chemistry teaching and learning are discussed.
